Donaldson Co Lowers Emissions by 25%

Donaldson Company, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of innovative filtration products and solutions, announced it reduced total Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 25% and grew renewable energy usage by 21% over fiscal year 2021.

This included contributions from on-site solar generation, green energy contracts, and the purchase of energy attribute certificates (EACs). The company also invested in energy efficiency projects globally.

Donaldson announced the addition of over 5,500 MWh of renewable energy through a green tariff contract, PPAs, and on-site solar. Of this renewable energy, 4,760 MWh were added through a utility green tariff contract in Skarbimierz, Poland, and 795 MWh of renewable energy were added through a direct PPA and the first full year of energy generation from two on-site solar installations in South Africa.

The company mitigated over 10,300 mt CO2e of emissions from 22,700 MWh of energy use through the purchase of EACs.

Donaldson is exploring its options to participate in a virtual PPA in North America, the area representing the most significant energy demand and a critical part of its roadmap to achieve progress toward its GHG emissions reduction goal.

The company is targeting an absolute reduction of its Scope 1 and 2 GHG by 42% by the end of fiscal year 2030 from a fiscal year 2021 baseline.

Donaldson publishes reports using the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), GRI, and SASB guidelines. In FY23, the company also submitted its first CDP Climate Change questionnaire.

Details were published in its fiscal 2023 Sustainability Report.

“Our commitment to ESG principles, coupled with our dedicated efforts towards sustainable stakeholder care, enhance Donaldson’s standing as a responsible corporate citizen,” said Tod Carpenter, chairman, president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “Our 2023 accomplishments reflect the execution of our Filtration for a Thriving Future strategy which is grounded in our commitment to ensuring our products and practices have a positive impact today and create a thriving future for people and the planet.”
