LEDs help Tiffany & Co. curb energy use, emissions
Tiffany & Co. is reaping big energy and emissions savings from its recent LED retrofitting project, derived with some help from the Environmental Defense Fund.
Between 2014 and 2015, the famous New York City jeweler retrofitted close to 100 retail stores with LED lighting, both overhead and in display cases. The business case for the LED rollout was created with the help of EDF's Climate Corps program, as detailed in a recent report. The Climate Corps fellow assigned to help Tiffany's in 2014 analysis found through an analysis that LED retrofits could contribute to an estimated 6% global reduction in the company's carbon footprint.
According to the company's most recent sustainability report, the energy savings from the rollout are contributing to Tiffany's larger, 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal of 15%.
Even larger than that goal,
. Also helping the company get there are its new, LEED Platinum-certified corporate offices, and its goal to eventually use only renewable energy sources for its electricity."Energy conservation, green building principles, renewable energy use and proactive environmental management are essential pillars of greening our workplace," the company said in its report. "In our manufacturing and distribution facilities, we are implementing a variety of emission-reduction programs, including the use of solar arrays in some locations."
