Amazon deploys electric delivery vans in Munich
Amazon will be deploying 40 electric vans to its distribution center in Munich Daglfing and installing 60 charging stations at its location there through a new European partnership.
The agreement with StreetScooter will supply its WORK Box vans that will be deployed for last-mile delivery to customers in Munich. StreetScooter will also be supplying the charging infrastructure for the distribution center.
“Amazon is committed to achieving the Paris agreement targets ten years ahead of schedule – in 2040 instead of 2050 – so we are collaborating with a number of different partners developing new technologies and helping promote a carbon-neutral economy,” Adam Elman, Senior Lead Sustainability of Amazon Europe, said in a statement. “We look forward to working with StreetScooter and using their expertise to add additional electric vehicles and charging stations to our network and achieve carbon-neutral delivery operations.”
This project follows another one that Amazon rolled out in Germany, which included the purchase of 100 electric vans from Mercedes-Benz in 2018.
StreetScooter says that its “Made in Germany” e-vans perform better in total cost of ownership after just a few years as compared to conventional combustion-engine vehicles.
