Facebook adds another Va. solar farm to renewable portfolio

Facebook has expanded its portfolio of solar plants in Virginia through an agreement announced Feb. 13 with a 100 MW facility in Greensville County.

Through this agreement with Dominion Energy, the tech giant will purchase the environmental attributes generated by the Sadler Solar facility. The project has been approved by the Virginia State Corporation Commission and is expected to be operational by the end of 2020.

"We are proud to continue to grow our partnership with Dominion Energy by adding this new 100-MW project to the grid," Urvi Parekh, head of Renewable Energy at Facebook, said in a statement. "Since 2017, this partnership has resulted in over 690 MW of new solar energy in Virginia and North Carolina and has helped strengthen the renewable energy market in the region."

This will be the ninth solar project in Virginia and North Carolina operated by Dominion Energy that provides renewable energy to Facebook, supporting their goal to power global operations with 100% renewable energy in 2020.
