Comcast installs rooftop solar at D.C. facility
Comcast is expecting to save approximate 272 metric tons of CO2 annually through a 760-panel rooftop solar installation that they recently completed at their multi-purpose facility in Washington, D.C.
The project was completed in partnership with Maicom, LLC, and is in line with a list of other projects completed at offices company-wide that include solar installations and HVAC efficiency upgrades.
This particular facility at Michigan Avenue in Washington, D.C., has also previously installed an employee electric vehicle charging station and converted its lighting to LED along with 30 additional Comcast sites in the area. Comcast estimates that these upgrades at the Michigan Avenue facility have eliminated more than 200,000 kWh annually and reduced transportation-related emissions.
"Our commitment to innovation stems further than our products and services and into our commitment to implement sustainable resources for our employees and our communities," Mary McLaughlin, Senior Vice President of Comcast's Beltway Region, said in a statement. "We are proud to be part of the sustainable initiatives happening throughout Washington, D.C. and will continue to find new ways to go green."
In addition to cutting transportation-related emissions, Comcast has also implemented fuel-efficiency software in their Xfinity fleet vehicles to lower emissions and increase gas mileage.
