Knight-Swift targets 50% emissions cut by 2035

Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings announced Sept. 29 their newest goal to reduce carbon emissions by 50% before 2035.

The truckload transportation company plans to meet this goal by integrating zero-emissions vehicles, such as those powered by battery electric or hydrogen fuel cells, into their fleet. They also plan to implement next-generation tractor and trailer aerodynamic solutions and start to use next-generation clean diesel engines, in addition to other efficiency solutions technologies.

“Sustainability has always been at the core of our culture,” CEO Dave Jackson said in a statement. “While we have made significant strides in improving our environmental footprint over the years, we believe that setting an ambitious public goal to reduce carbon emissions generated by our fleet by 50% over the next 15 years quantifies our commitment. Our passionate and dedicated team members have the knowledge to rally around and execute on this achievable goal that will benefit our families, our communities, and future generations.”

Knight-Swift has already begun work with Daimler Trucks North America to deploy their first zero-emissions battery electric vehicle, a pre-production Freightliner eCascadia day cab tractor equipped with a fully electric drivetrain. The model will be used by Knight-Swift to service the Greater Los Angeles area.
