Hydro Inks 48 MW Solar Deal for US Production
Hydro announced Aug. 26 that it entered into a new agreement to source 48 MW of solar energy in what is its first long-term energy contract in the U.S.
The Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy company signed a PPA with CPV to source energy from its Maple Hill solar facility. The energy from the solar farm will be used in Hyrdo’s Cressona, Penn., aluminum extrusion facility.
“Utilizing a renewable energy provider like CPV in the production of our aluminum products is the perfect complement for Hydro's sustainability goals, and we're excited to be the first site in North America to take this step,” Mike Hammer, senior director of operations at Hydro Cressona, said in a statement. “The clean, locally-generated energy from CPV's Maple Hill site makes it an ideal facility to support our investments and world-leading capabilities in Cressona.”
CPV will begin supplying power to Hydro Cressona in 2022 following the completed construction of the Maple Hill solar facility. The solar power is part of a $48.3 million investment Hydro plans to make in Cressona, Penn., to support transportation, distribution and industrial market segments.
