Moscow To Expand City Fleet with Hybrid Electric Passenger Bus
The Moscow city transport service will soon be deploying a 12-meter hydrogen electric passenger transit bus in its fleet.
The vehicle technology will be provided to GAZ Group, a battery-electric commercial vehicle provider, by METTEM-M through a partnership with Loop Energy. METTEM-M will be using Loop’s eFlow-powered fuel cell modules to develop hydrogen electric subsystems, powertrains and other vehicle technology for transit buses, logistics vehicles and rail transport.
The first such bus from this partnership is currently on display at the International Commercial Vehicle Show 2021 in Moscow. Loop and METTEM-M will, through their partnership, provide electric buses to cities across Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and greater Europe.
“Partnering with Loop was a natural next step for METTEM as we look to supply our OEM customers with mobility solutions that meet the growing demand in Russia and beyond for electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles over the next decade,” Jan Drewitz, CEO of METTEM, said in a statement. “With Loop’s innovative fuel cell modules and our extensive powertrain and vehicle integration expertise, we foresee hydrogen electric solutions, and the benefits of extended range, peak power performance, and fuel efficiency, becoming the gold standard in the commercial vehicle market.”
The first passenger bus is expected to begin service in Moscow in early 2022, pending road testing and certifications.
