Indiana Jail Plans Energy Upgrade Project
The Wells County jail facility announced Oct. 4 an energy efficiency overhaul that is expected to save the complex $560,000 annually in energy costs.
The Indiana jail will partner with Ameresco on the renovation and modernization project, which will include HVAC replacements, LED retrofits inside and outside and an upgraded controls system. The needs of the facility were identified in a comprehensive audit of the jail facility before the county selected Ameresco to complete the upgrades.
“The jail is now 35 years old and some of the original HVAC equipment is in need of replacement. In addition, the jail operations needs have changed as we now house Level 6 inmates who may require mental health and substance abuse counseling as well as other educational programs,” Scott Holliday, sheriff of Wells County, said in a statement. “We need to adapt to these requirements, make changes to address the Covid-19 pandemic concerns and create a safe working environment for our corrections staff.”
The project should begin construction in October 2021 and be completed by October 2022.
