BD Focuses on Supply Chain Sustainability in Carbon Neutrality Pursuit
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) released Oct. 18 its new sustainability strategy, including a target to reach carbon neutral operations by 2040.
The medical tech company identified five areas that are its highest priorities in generating change over the next decade: climate change, product impacts, responsible supply chain, healthy workforce and communities and transparency. Its climate change strategy involves reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% between 2019 and 2030 and a commitment to setting Scope 3 emissions targets.
Reducing the impact of its products will also involve reducing Scope 3 emissions associated with the use and disposal of these products. Further, the focus on creating a responsible supply chain will include working with supply chain partners to quantify and reduce their own emissions.
“We are implementing a new ESG strategy that builds on our commitment to improve and advance individual and public health at a global scale,” Tom Polen, chairman, CEO and president of BD, said in a statement. “We know that the health of our company, our planet, our communities and the people we serve are directly connected, and when we successfully address the health of one, we often solve for challenges in another. Together We Advance embraces these interconnections, with the ultimate goal of driving positive collective outcomes and a healthy, resilient world for all.”
