Uber to Offer EV Drivers At-Home Charging Package
Uber announced Oct. 26 that it will be supporting the EV transition of its rideshare drivers in the California Bay Area through a new electric vehicle charging partnership.
The rideshare platform will be working with Wallbox to provide a discounted package of EV chargers, installation and financing for drivers operating in the Bay Area. The partnership was established to help Uber in its pursuit of reaching 100% zero emissions in the U.S., Canada and Europe by 2030.
The charging packages will allow drivers to install chargers at their homes, where 80% of EV charging takes place. If the project in the Bay Area is successful, Uber and Wallbox could expand the partnership to other regions in the U.S. and Canada, and then globally.
“Climate is a team sport and Uber is committed to doing our part to expedite the transition to zero-emissions mobility,” Andrew Macdonald, Uber SVP of Mobility and Business Operations, said in a statement. “Making electric vehicle charging solutions available at scale is essential to achieving our goals and we are excited to partner with Wallbox on this mission.”
