Meijer Adds EV Fast Charging to Midwest Locations
Meijer announced Feb. 1 the opening of its first public fast charging electric vehicle stations installed at store locations across Michigan and Ohio.
The Midwestern retailer received the charging stations from EVgo, which equips all its network chargers with 100% renewable electricity. The chargers offer between 100 kW and 350 kW of fast charging capacity and are the result of a previously announced partnership between Meijer and EVgo.
While Meijer has offered EV charging at select retail locations for over a decade, the new installations represent its first offering of fast charging technology.
“Our partnership with EVgo provides another way for us to serve our community and further our commitment to sustainability,” Erik Petrovskis, director of environmental compliance and sustainability at Meijer, said in a statement. “The EV charging stations provide a convenience to our customers and community, and we are excited to be a part of the transition to electric vehicles.”
The partnership with EVgo builds upon recent efforts in Midwestern states to build up a charging network, including the Regional Electric Vehicle Midwest Coalition started by the governors of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Meijer has the ambition to further increase EV charging infrastructure across its more than 250 supercenters.
