Kraft Heinz Inks First Wind VPPA
The Kraft Heinz Company has completed its first wind energy investment with a 12-year VPPA.
The food and beverage brand signed the agreement with Repsol for its largest wind project, the Delta II facility in Aragon, Spain. Kraft Heinz will source over 90 GWh a year from the project, which will cover approximately 90% of its European manufacturing sites’ electricity load. The VPPA will help the company on its path to procuring a majority of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2025.
“Our agreement with Repsol is a significant step in our efforts to reduce the impact of climate change,” Rafael Oliveira, Executive Vice President and President of International Markets at Kraft Heinz, said in a statement. “I am proud of this investment in our International Zone, which we expect to contribute to our global goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and reducing 50 percent of our emissions by 2030, while also helping our industry make the transition to renewable power.”
Kraft Heinz first announced in 2021 its goal to achieve net zero emissions across its operational footprint and entire global supply chain by 2050. Its European operations will be heavily assisted by this project, as a majority of Kraft Heinz’s European electricity load comes from its manufacturing sites.
