U.S. National Archives and Records Administration Improve Efficiency
Construction began at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) sites in College Park, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., for an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) .
The $33 million project will enhance energy efficiency across NARA's facilities and will be conducted by Ameresco to produce cost savings and environmental benefits.
Ameresco is implementing building automation system (BAS) modernization with advanced sequencing, optimization of heating and cooling systems, building transformer replacements, LED lighting, building envelope improvements, piping insulation and utility water reduction at NARA’s flagship facilities. These projects will lower annual fossil fuel consumption by 72% and electricity use by 28%.
This NARA ESPC project is the latest in a series of energy projects that Ameresco has undertaken in collaboration with NARA over the past 20 years.
The project received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies (AFFECT) Program and will add more energy efficient infrastructure into the project, featuring more solar rooftop PV, a new chiller, and electrical vehicle (EV) Charging.
This latest ESPC is focused on bringing NARA’s facilities closer to net-zero emissions as required by Executive Order-14057.
