Stagecoach Group Adds 715 EVs

Stagecoach, a UK bus and coach operator, is investing across its operations as part of its journey to decarbonization by acquiring new electric vehicles (EVs) along with significant depot and infrastructure upgrades across the country.

The introduction of 715 new EVs to the fleet follows funding received from both the Zero-Emission Regional Bus Areas (Zebra) scheme and the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZeb). These new electric buses will deliver a more modern and sustainable public transport network for passengers and contribute to cleaner and quieter neighborhoods through enhanced air quality and a reduction in noise pollution.

Significant updates are being made to depots through the introduction of EV charging and battery storage, as well as the installation of solar panels to reduce reliance on the National Grid. Additionally, the company will see rapid charging infrastructure installed at a further 22 depots across the country.

The new fleet of EVs have begun to enter service, and when complete, the new additions will mean 15% of Stagecoach’s total fleet will be electric.

“We’re thrilled to announce this transformative investment to our fleet, which will enable us to modernize and upgrade our infrastructure, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient transport system for communities across the country,” said Tony Cockcroft, Asset Management and Infrastructure Director at Stagecoach, in a statement.
