IQVIA Lowers Emissions 27%

IQVIA — a global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights and healthcare intelligence — announced the company achieved a 27% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions against its 2019 baseline.

The company also announced that 50% of its suppliers have now set or committed to set emissions reduction goals.

Over the past year, five more IQVIA laboratories achieved My Green Lab certification, with 100% of the company’s laboratories now certified. Further, IQVIA’s laboratories avoided 384 metric tons of CO2e in lab freezer waste and removed nearly three metric tons of single-use plastic from clinical trial test kits.

As published in its 2024 Sustainability Report, renewable electricity accounted for 13% of the company's 2023 global consumption. IQVIA continued to use electricity from renewable sources in its Edinburgh lab, which represented 6% of its 2023 global consumption. In 2024, the company moved its Valencia, U.S. lab to a new building with electricity from renewable sources.

“IQVIA combines technology and scientific expertise with our unique information assets and Healthcare-grade AI to help solve the most complex healthcare challenges for more than 10,000 life sciences and healthcare customers in more than 100 countries,” said IQVIA Chairman and CEO Ari Bousbib in a statement. “We are proud of the significant progress we have made in our sustainability commitments to innovate, accelerate trial delivery, and facilitate industry-wide collaboration.”

The company’s goals include:

  • 25% of buildings by consumption will use 100% renewable electricity by 2025, contributing toward a goal to transition to 100% renewable electricity in all buildings.
  • Reduce energy consumption by transitioning to more energy-efficient heating and cooling systems in labs and office buildings.
