Whole Foods, Hilton featured in DOE's 'Better Buildings Challenge' swap preview
The U.S. spends around $200 billion a year running commercial buildings, and a large portion of that energy is wasted. Energy efficiency has been called low-hanging fruit in the quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut energy costs, but it can be difficult to identify the best approaches to energy efficiency and best practices.
That's where the U.S. Department of Energy's Better Buildings Challenge comes in.
Through Better Buildings, the DOE partners with public and private sector leaders to make the nation’s homes, commercial buildings and industrial plants more energy efficient by accelerating investment and sharing successful best practices. As part of the initiative, Better Buildings created the "swap" program where energy managers from two different companies go to one of their counterpart's buildings to see if they can wring out additional energy savings.
The first swap shows how Whole Foods Market and Hilton Worldwide energy teams worked together to unveil energy savings opportunities in each other's buildings in San Francisco, Calif. Additional video footage of the swap's results will be released tomorrow, but here is a sneak peak.
