AmericanAirlines Arena unveils major LED project
AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Fla., unveiled its newly installed LED lighting system Oct. 11 as the Miami Heat hosted the Brooklyn Nets in a preseason game.
"We rely heavily on lighting to set the stage for Miami Heat games, creating the right environment for our players and our fans," Michael McCullough, the NBA basketball team's executive vice president and chief marketing officer said in a statement, adding that the system allows for the addition of dramatic effects and color into lighting presentations inside the arena.
The system is expected to reduce the arena's energy use by up to 75%, according to a news release from power management company Eaton, whose recently acquired Ephesus Lighting business, based in Syracuse, N.Y., installed it.
The arena's decision to take on the project follows a growing number of other professional sports arenas across the country that have adopted modernized, energy efficiency lighting technologies. In August, for example, Ford Field, home to the Detroit Lions, illuminated its new system, which included retrofitting the lighting inside the stadium as well as the installation of a completely new rooftop lighting system, The Detroit News reported at the time. That system was installed by Iowa-based Musco Lighting.
The AmericanAirlines Arena's system uses color temperature tuning capabilities and a control system that will interface with the arena's existing control system; it also features dimming capabilities, tunable light temperature and advanced control capabilities within each fixture, Eaton said.
