Part of its ongoing effort integrate sustainable energy solutions into its business, IKEA on Aug. 30 announced plans to deploy electric vehicle charging stations at its new store in Jacksonville, Fla.
Another energy-related feature of the store, which is set to open in Fall 2017, is its 1.89 MW rooftop solar installation. The project will mark IKEA's fifth in Florida. The Swedish home furnishings retailer also incorporates energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems as well as skylights in the design of its U.S. facilities.
The new installation of three EV charging stations in Jacksonville continues IKEA's partnership with Car Charging Group Inc., the owner of the Blink Network and Blink EV charging stations. There currently are Blink EV charging units at 30 IKEA stores in the United States.
Consistent with its goal to be energy independent by 2020, IKEA has installed more than 700,000 solar panels on buildings worldwide and owns nearly 350 wind turbines, including 104 in the U.S.
