Johnson & Johnson reduces carbon emissions by 26%
Toward their Health for Humanity Goal of reducing absolute carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, Johnson & Johnson reported they have reduced carbon emissions by 26% globally since 2010, including Scope 1 and Scope 2. This result surpasses an interim goal of 20% by 2020.
"At Johnson & Johnson, we know that changing the trajectory of health of humanity requires dedication and commitment on many fronts," says Alex Gorsky, Chairman and CEO, Johnson & Johnson, in a statement given upon the release of the company’s 2018 ESG report. "We're proud to share the 2018 Health for Humanity Report, which details the progress we've made in improving our environmental, social, and governance practices—and we're committed to finding even more ways to create a healthier society. It's not just part of our business model, it's a fundamental tenet of our values as a company."
Among other key achievements reported by Johnson & Johnson for 2018 was the execution of the company’s first long-term green tariff agreement to power a portion of their manufacturing operations in the state of Georgia from a new utility-scale solar installation. The company also expanded its on-site renewable energy generation capacity by commissioning a fourth wind turbine in Ireland.
One area of opportunity for the company cited in the report was further enhancing supplier engagement programs to encourage suppliers to reduce their GHG emissions associated with Johnson & Johnson’s purchased goods and services.
