Providence College to save $100k from LED retrofit
Providence College has completed an LED lighting and advanced lighting controls project at its 50,000-square-foot Phillips Memorial Library, a project which is expected to save the college over 1 million kWh and $100,000 in operating costs annually.
The Catholic College, based in Rhode Island, completed the project through a $250,000 subsidy from National Grid’s incentive program with the help of Fairbanks Energy Services.
The upgrade included switching 4,000 existing fixtures to 1,500 retrofitted or replaced fixtures with a fully networked Lutron controls system. The college will receive a 2-year payback on the project.
“We were able to both significantly improve lighting in the Phillips Memorial Library for hundreds of students, staff and faculty using the space every day and find a solution that will deliver continual operational savings,” Andrew J. Sullivan, Executive Director of Physical Plant at Providence College, said in a statement. “Fairbanks Energy Services’ LED lighting project additionally supports our institutional commitment to reducing energy consumption.”
The control center installed with the lighting retrofit includes the capacity for occupancy sensors, grouping fixtures into zones, scene controls and scheduling.
