Kellogg Company exceeds emissions target one year early
Kellogg Company announced Sept. 16 that they exceeded their emissions goal a year ahead of schedule and reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than 28% since 2015.
The food manufacturing company had originally set a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15% per pound of food produced by the end of 2020. Kellogg also has a goal of sourcing 100% renewable energy in their operations by 2050 and as of 2019, they achieved 28% of that goal.
"As a global food company, we have a responsibility to address the significant risks climate change poses on people and our planet," Amy Senter, Kellogg Company Chief Sustainability Officer, said in a statement. "We're proud of our progress and are working on multiple fronts to reduce emissions across our supply chain."
Kellogg is also pursuing a reduction in their Scope 3 emissions and are working with their suppliers to reduce their emissions by 50% and improve measuring and reporting practices. One such project in Spain caused rice farmers to reduce their emissions by nearly 45% through the implementation of new sustainable irrigation techniques.
