U.S. Marine Corps awards $41M contract for energy upgrades
The Naval Facilities Command Mid-Atlantic announced Sept. 10 that they awarded a $41 million utility energy savings contract for energy efficiency, resiliency, reliability and cybersecurity upgrades to the United States Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point.
The contract was awarded to Duke Energy and Ameresco’s Federal Solutions group, who will make the improvements to the U.S. Marine Corps’ largest airfield. The 3.29 million square feet of building space will receive upgraded lighting systems, modernized HVAC and upgraded energy management and control systems.
“Having been in continuous operation for more than 75 years, the utility and building systems at MCAS Cherry Point are at varying degrees of serviceability,” Nicole Bulgarino, EVP and General Manager of Federal Solutions at Ameresco, said in a statement. “Ameresco appreciates the collaboration that Duke fostered during project development with the Navy and Marine Corps, which has made it possible for us now to deliver much-needed modernization at MCAS Cherry Point.”
The contract will last for 20 years, during which time Ameresco will also provide ongoing commissioning of the systems.
