Nevada city rolls out smart lighting program with Cox Communications
The City of Henderson, Nev., and Cox Communications have teamed up on the installation of smart lighting controls on 33 decorative and non-decorative lights in the city to lower municipal energy, maintenance and operational costs.
The pilot program of this smart community collaboration began on September 1, 2020, and will run for one year. During that time, the city will be able to monitor and analyze the energy usage of the lighting solutions through a single user interface.
The duo plans to announce additional smart community projects in the coming months related to water consumption management, parking management solutions and video analytics. Cox2M, the IoT business line of Cox Communications, is testing alongside the city solutions for energy conservation, infrastructure and workflow automation for better resource management.
“Given the economic circumstances, we are thrilled to get this project started,” Robert Herr, Chief Infrastructure Officer and Assistant City Manager, said in a statement. “We know the data derived from the smart lighting project will help our team address necessary efficient standards and create a more carbon-neutral future.”
Pending the outcome of the pilot program, the program could be expanded in Henderson and other Cox markets.
