Carrier Global to reduce customer carbon footprint by one gigaton

Carrier Global Corporation announced Nov. 30 that it intends to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton and to be carbon neutral across its operations by 2030.

The HVAC system manufacturer plans to achieve this target by investing more than $2 billion over the next 10 years toward the development of sustainable buildings and cold chain solutions. The company’s 2030 ESG Goals focus on developing program criteria to assess key factory suppliers against and establishing a responsible supply chain program.

Additionally, Carrier is pursuing a 10% reduction in energy intensity across its operations.

“At Carrier, we are applying our industry-leading innovation to fight climate change through new energy-efficient product offerings and through lower emissions in our operations,” President and CEO Dave Gitlin said in a statement. “Our 2030 goals will drive our company to be a positive catalyst for societal change in our areas of expertise, including healthy buildings and the cold chain, as well as in the communities in which we operate around the world.”

In addition to achieving carbon neutrality, Carrier is also committed to being water neutral and delivering zero-waste to landfills from its manufacturing locations by 2030.
