Agricultural machinery maker eyes 20% emissions cut by 2026
AGCO announced March 24 that it is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its manufacturing operations by 20% by the end of 2026.
The agricultural machinery producer released its 2020 Sustainability Report, which includes efforts to develop soil-carbon sequestration and soil health sensors and technologies. It also is targeting the decarbonization of facilities and products by reaching 60% renewable energy use in internal operations by 2026.
AGCO also plans to release a fully electric Fendt tractor model by 2025.
“AGCO’s new vision and purpose reinforce our commitment to rapid innovation and the evolution of precision agriculture solutions to help farmers produce more with less environmental impact,” Eric Hansotia, AGCO’s chairman, president and CEO, said in a statement. “The agriculture industry has the opportunity—and responsibility—to think big and act bigger. Our new sustainability strategy will be the launch pad for focused creativity and innovation in the years to come.”
