Jackson Family Wines Targets Climate Positive Operations Without Offsets by 2050
Jackson Family Wines announced Aug. 17 a new commitment to cut its carbon footprint in half by 2030 and become climate positive by 2050 without the purchase of carbon offsets.
The family-owned California wine company released its Rooted for Good: Roadmap to 2030 initiative, which includes 10-year targets related to energy use, water management and farming and land use.
To reduce its carbon emissions across its Scope 1, 2 and 3 activities, Jackson Family Wines plans to invest in utility-scale wind and install solar panels, transition to zero-emission vehicles and product transport and pursue soil carbon sequestration technology at its vineyard. The company will also transition 100% of its estate vineyards to regenerative farming practices during this timeframe.
“I am proud of the efforts of our entire team here at Jackson Family Wines for developing such a bold set of goals and initiatives that will help move our company and our industry forward for the better,” CEO Rick Tigner said in a statement. “This plan aims to make a significant impact in our race to zero emissions, while concurrently working to protect the environment, and improve the lives of our employees and the communities we serve – all while producing incredible wines.”
Jackson Family Wines was a co-founder of International Wineries for Climate Action along with Familia Torres and is a member of the UN’s Race to Zero campaign.
