Saint-Gobain Plans Zero-Energy Home Construction
Saint-Gobain North America launched Aug. 19 a new program that will support the construction of sustainable homes to neighborhoods across North America.
The first project will include the construction alongside Charis Homes of a zero-energy ready, universal design home for a family in Canton, Ohio. The home will feature 20 of SGNA’s sustainable design solutions to increase the home’s energy efficiency, such as a smart vapor retarder, moisture-resistant drywall and roof shingles made in a facility that recycles production waste into asphalt material.
Solar panels will also be installed that will completely support the electricity needs of the home.
The build is part of SGNA’s “Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities” program. The family who will be moving into the home should be decided by early 2022.
“At Saint-Gobain, our purpose is making the world a better home. The Sustaining Futures, Raising Communities program is our opportunity to leverage our global thinking and sustainability mindset to do just that,” Mark Rayfield, CEO of Saint-Gobain North America, said in a statement. “The home in North Canton is our first step in a series of projects where we hope to inspire and make a tangible impact, right in the communities where our colleagues live.”
