Tishman Speyer Aims for Net-Zero Across Global Portfolio by 2050
Tishman Speyer announced Sept. 13 a commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across the operations of its global portfolio by 2050.
The real estate developer will also ensure that all potential future acquisitions have a way to achieve net zero. Tishman Speyer already achieved sustainability certifications for 73% of its buildings, including LEED, BREEAM and DGNB, and 100% of its U.S. portfolio is benchmarked under the EnergyStar program.
Going forward, the company will require that all of its new construction projects be built to a LEED Silver standard or higher.
“We are dedicated to the health and well-being of our customers and neighborhoods,” Jonathan Flaherty, global head of sustainability and building technology innovation at Tishman Speyer, said in a statement. “We design, construct and operate our properties with this is mind. Our commitments to be net zero by 2050 and to the PRI will ensure that as we are enhancing our physical environments, we are also minimizing our environmental impact. We all bear responsibility for this planet.”
Most recently, the company completed a retrofit of the central plant of its headquarters in Rockefeller Center. The facility received 102 new ice storage tanks, allowing for increased operational efficiency and a 70% reduction in on-peak electrical demand and emissions.
