Calhoun Port Authority Plans Carbon Neutral Facility Expansion
The Calhoun Port Authority announced Oct. 25 that its Matagorda Ship Channel expansion will be conducted in such a way so that the project is carbon neutral.
The Congressionally-authorized expansion project will allow for a greater quantity of products to be shipped from the Port of Calhoun. The project will be executed using an Environmental Social Governance (ESG) program developed by Max Midstream and assist the facility in becoming carbon neutral.
“One of the core objectives of the program is to promote a carbon neutral export facility, from construction, operations to exports and will look to be the first carbon neutral port in the country,” Port Director Charles Hausmann said in a statement. “We are pushing the boundaries and making history. And we look forward to other ports following our lead. We don't have to choose between economic prosperity and environmental protection. We can and should do both. And at the Calhoun Port Authority, that's exactly what we are doing.”
