Shiseido Adds Environmental Requirements to Procurement Strategy
Shiseido released new environmental requirements for its suppliers as a way to more thoroughly incorporate sustainability into all aspects of its business.
A final judgment in supplier selection will be made considering environmental response and respect for human rights. This standard is what the company has dubbed “promoting responsible procurement” to ensure that business partners share their social responsibility values and will take steps to make corrections when gaps are identified.
Suppliers will be required to confirm compliance with all environment-related laws and regulations and that they contribute to measures like biodiversity preservation, materials and drainage waste reduction, resource conservation, recycling, and pollution prevention. Additionally, the company will work with its suppliers to reduce CO2 emissions in the supply chain where possible.
The new requirements fulfill targets of the company’s BEAUTY INNOVATIONS FOR A BETTER WORLD corporate mission and its medium- to long-term strategy WIN 2023 and Beyond.
The announcement of new supplier standards follows a previous announcement that Shiseido has also joined RE100 and is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2026 through the procurement of 100% renewable electricity.
