Caterpillar Achieves Progress on 2030 Goals
Caterpillar Inc. announced making progress toward its seven sustainability goals for 2030 and disclosed Scope 3 use of sold products emissions.
The manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives also filed its inaugural Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) report.
Among the goals set by the company is a science-based Scope 1 and 2 goal to reduce absolute GHG emissions from a 2018 baseline, implementation of water management strategies at 100% of facilities located in water high-risk areas by 2030, and a reduction in landfill intensity of 50% from 2018 to 2030.
“Caterpillar is contributing to a reduced-carbon future by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our operations and by investing in a diverse portfolio of products, services and solutions to help customers meet their climate-related objectives,” said Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Jim Umpleby in a statement. “We’re pleased to highlight our ESG progress and the execution of our strategy as we continue to invest for future profitable growth.”
