Koppers Achieves 50% Reduction in Emissions
Koppers Holdings Inc. accomplished its 2030 goal of a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions seven years ahead of schedule.
The integrated global provider of essential treated wood products, wood preservation technologies and carbon compounds reported that 18% of energy consumed in 2023 was produced from renewable resources.
Koppers is implementing solar installations at several locations, with three installations planned in Australia and one project under exploration in the U.S. The company's Auckland, New Zealand, facility installed solar panels to power all its administrative offices.
The Auckland site will be the third Koppers site with solar power. The Koppers Australia head office in North Sydney moved to a new carbon neutral location in 2023 and purchases electricity generated from renewable resources.
As detailed in its 2023 Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR), Koppers' facility in Denmark sources 100% of its energy from an electricity grid composed of over 70% wind-generated energy.
The company also published its first Taskforce on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) report.
"At Koppers, Sustainability means creating value for all our stakeholders by engaging in a future-focused approach to success, rooted in our values of People, Planet and Performance," said Koppers CEO Leroy M. Ball in a statement. "While our global Koppers teams helped us achieve impressive progress in 2023, we know that greater potential remains as we continue to elevate and integrate our sustainability practices across all aspects of our business."
