Pegasystems Expands Measurement of Emissions

Pegasystems Inc., an enterprise AI decisioning and workflow automation platform provider,  continued to monitor and measure its environmental impact and introduced technology enhancements and partnerships to help clients achieve carbon-neutral goals.

The company expanded the tracking, management and measurement of all global offices and managed spaces, which helped it achieve its 2025 energy consumption reduction and water usage reduction goals ahead of schedule.

Pega committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) with a roadmap to net-zero GHG emissions by 2040. The company submitted its targets for validation to SBTi and has been assigned a Lead Reviewer to assess them against the SBTi criteria.

Since carbon offsets are not near-term solutions and SBTi does not count carbon offsets as reductions toward goals, the company plans to invest in operations to reduce Scope 1 emissions.

Pega is lowering energy consumption and associated Scope 3 carbon emissions throughout its operations by working with its data center partners on cloud-based emissions. Its supplier evaluation helped compile and categorize its suppliers’ sustainability initiatives through which the company can focus on areas of improvement to ensure they help the company meet its long-term carbon reduction goals.

The company is also maximizing office space usage with Pega's hybrid work model while reducing emissions and energy consumed to keep them operational.

Pega’s environmental data is being reported to third parties such as CDP and EcoVadis to benchmark and map areas of improvement across all 14 globally leased office spaces and 21 managed spaces.

Pega is providing and helping clients with energy efficient, innovative solutions to achieve emissions-reduction goals, including Pega Cloud®, which helps reduce energy consumption and carbon footprints through auto-scaling, auto-hibernation and other energy efficient technologies. Pega also leveraged Pega Cloud internally to help identify efficiency opportunities and reduce energy consumption.

Details were published in Pega's annual Impact Report. The report provides a view into the company's 2023 progress, developments and contributions in its Environmental, Social and Governance programs.

“2023 proved that in times of great technological change, Pega can quickly innovate its solutions and adapt its ESG efforts to successfully support its clients, employees, and partners,” said Pega’s CFO and COO Ken Stillwell in a statement. “We are proud of our ability to bring technology to the market while continuing to foster a culture of innovation and belonging, as well as finding new ways to support the communities we work and live in.”
