Ascent Resources Lowers Scope 1 Emissions, Methane Intensity

Natural gas producer Ascent Resources lowered its Scope 1 GHG emissions intensity to approximately 20% below the company's 2020 baseline year.

In 2023, the company also reduced its Scope 1 methane intensity by nearly 50%  from its 2022 total combined assets.

As announced in its 2023 Sustainability Report, Ascent achieved a third consecutive year of low Scope 1 GHG emissions intensity (below 3.00 on mt CO2e/mboe basis) and an ultra-low Scope 1 methane emissions intensity of 0.02%.

"We are pleased to share with our stakeholders our sixth annual sustainability report," said Jeff Fisher, Ascent's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, in a statement. "As a staunch ally of human progress now in our second decade of existence, we remain committed to responsibly delivering affordable, reliable, cleaner-burning energy while working diligently to maintain our social license to operate. As always, 2023's strong performance is a testament to our team of dedicated employees."

Since 2020, Ascent's methane intensity has averaged 0.04 and fallen by nearly 80% from 2020 levels to be among the lowest for domestic energy producers. The company saw an increase in absolute emissions year-over-year from 2021 to 2022 due in large part to a mid-2022 asset acquisition being integrated into Ascent's reporting, the report notes.
