Google Data Center to Add Wind Power
Google’s future data center in Mesa, Arizona, will be powered by wind energy.
The Salt River Project (SRP), the Arizona State Land Department, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC and Babbitt Ranches recently hosted an event for the Babbitt Ranch Energy Center to launch the wind power project.
The wind facility — which features 50 turbines — will add 161 megawatts (MW) to SRP’S system and continue SRP’s work to diversify its resource mix as it increases the amount of clean energy delivered to its customers.
SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest electricity provider in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving approximately 1.1 million customers.
A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC built, owns and operates the project.
SRP was the first utility in Arizona to add wind power to its energy resource mix. SRP still receives all energy output from the 127 MW Dry Lake Wind Power Project, the state’s first large-scale wind power facility.
