Syntegon Receives SBTi Validation

Syntegon, a German processing and packaging technology manufacturer for pharmaceutical and food companies, announced the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated the company’s climate targets.

The company seeks to lower Scope 3 CO2 emissions by 25% as well as Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 48.3% by 2030 compared to 2019. The company's Scope 1 and 2 emissions include direct emissions from owned and controlled sources, such as heating fuel, and indirect emissions from purchased energy, such as electricity. 

Scope 3 alone accounts for 95% of Syntegon's total CO2 emissions, primarily caused by the operation of its machines at customer premises. 

“This is an ambitious goal, as our machines are designed for a long lifespan and we need to plan well into the future,” said Steffen Carbon, coordinator for development methods at Syntegon, in a statement. “By establishing long-term partnerships with our customers, we support them on their way to more sustainability – with newly developed, resource-efficient technologies and lifecycle services.”

By focusing on reducing the energy consumption of its machines, Syntegon plans to significantly reduce emissions and lower operating costs. 

Sustainability along the entire supply chain is also a top priority for Syntegon, and this includes measures to lower emissions with environmentally friendly alternatives such as green steel and renewable energy in its own production.
