Scandi Standard's Goals Approved by SBTi
Scandi Standard's climate targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) under both the new forest and agriculture guidelines (FLAG) and the net zero standard.
A producer of chicken-based food products in the Nordic region and Ireland, the company seeks to contribute to reducing emissions.
“Therefore, as one of a handful of Swedish companies, I am proud that we have now had our short- and long-term, science-based FLAG targets approved by SBTi,” said Ida Ljungkvist Group Sustainability Director of Scandi Standard, in a statement. “By reducing our impact on the climate, we want to ensure that chicken is part of the solution in a future, sustainable, and responsible food production.”
Scandi Standard set ambitious climate targets, which SBTi approved for the first time in spring 2023. In line with new requirements, the targets have now been updated and further strengthened, and the SBTi validated that the science-based GHG emission reduction targets submitted by Scandi Standard are in line with the SBTi corporate net-zero standard and the SBTi FLAG guidance.
The targets show how Scandi Standard will reduce emissions by 2030 and 2050 respectively.
The short-term targets for 2030 are:
- Energy and industry: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a base year 2021.
- Scandi Standard also commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% over the same time.
- FLAG (Forest, Land, and Agriculture) emissions: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 30.3% by 2030 from 2021 levels. The target includes FLAG emissions and removals. Scandi Standard also commits to zero deforestation for the primary deforestation-linked raw materials, with a target date of 2025.
The long-term targets for 2050 are:
- Energy and industry: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from the base year 2021.
- Scandi Standard also commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% over the same time.
- FLAG emissions: Scandi Standard commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 72% by 2050 from 2021 levels. The target includes FLAG emissions and removals.
To achieve these goals, the company has set a clear strategy that includes integrating sustainability in all investments and involving all parts of the company. Scandi Standard will focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, supply chain improvement, innovation and technology, and engagement and collaboration within the company.
