Wallenius Wilhelmsen's Goals Validated by SBTi

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a shipping and vehicle logistics company, announced that its near-term and net-zero targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The company’s near-term and net-zero 2040 science-based GHG emission reduction targets were validated and classified as in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, according to a statement. In 2024, the company reduced carbon freight services by adding the use of biofuel, which is now an integrated part in most new customer contracts. Wallenius Wilhelmsen also  prioritized the decarbonization of supply chains.

CEO Lasse Kristoffersen joined other global leaders in signing a letter ahead of COP29, advocating for policies that accelerate climate action.

The company also ordered 14 methanol dual-fuel vessels —the first of which, part of the new “Shaper Class,” will launch in the second half of 2026. These vessels represent a significant step forward, offering enhanced fuel efficiency and flexibility as well as increased cargo capacity.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen expanded the use of electric equipment powered by renewable energy at terminals and processing centers and signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a green automotive shipping corridor between Pyeongtaek, Korea, and the Port of Hueneme in California.
