City of Riverside Adds Electric Work Trucks to Fleet
The City of Riverside entered into a pilot project to deploy 10 high performance electric work trucks.
The work trucks are manufactured by Voltu Motor, a zero-emission commercial vehicle technology company.
The project is part of the City of Riverside’s Fleet Initiative. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Committee provided $600,000 in grant funding.
Voltu’s proprietary on-board fast charger uses the vehicle’s motor and power electronics to enable fast charging up to 200 kW from AC three-phase. This eliminates the need for traditional charging infrastructure, significantly reducing associated costs while ensuring operational efficiency. Combined with Voltu’s robust and high energy density battery pack featuring patented immersion cooling technology, the Voltu3 delivers up to 350 miles of range and dual-motor four-wheel-drive capabilities — matching or exceeding the performance of internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts.
“We have a goal to have zero days of unhealthy air quality and to attain 100% carbon neutral citywide by 2040,” said Rafael Guzman, assistant city manager and chief sustainability officer of the City of Riverside, in a statement. “We have a goal to have zero days of unhealthy air quality and to attain 100% carbon neutral citywide by 2040. The deployment of the Voltu Class 3 zero-emission work truck gets us one step closer to our goal and establishes us as a greener and cleaner city and sets an example for the State of California.”
