Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits Adds Refrigerated EV Trucks

Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, a distributor of beverage alcohol, reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with the introduction of insulated electric vehicles equipped with electric refrigeration units to ensure temperature-controlled delivery of fine wines while significantly reducing environmental impact.

As detailed in its 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, the company established a cross-functional team of leaders to initiate a full baseline and assessment of its environmental sustainability efforts, including benchmarking best practices inside the organization and across the industry. The extensive baseline exercise highlighted the need to consider fleet efficiency and electrification solutions, as well as energy efficiency tactics and renewables.

The company created a strategy with a focus on setting measurable goals and actionable plans that address its material environmental impact across four strategic pillars:

  • Focusing on engine efficiency, projected supply chain strategy optimization, and a shift to electric vehicles
  • Optimizing energy efficiency while pursuing on-site and off-site renewable energy solutions
  • Focusing on low-flow water fixtures to reduce water consumption per employee
  • Optimizing most material waste impacts based on where the company is today

“The unwavering compassion demonstrated by our employees is a true inspiration and testament to the strength of our organizational HEART Values – encouraging our Southern Glazer’s family to win with Honesty, Excellence, Agility, Respect and Teamwork,” said Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Southern Glazer’s, in a statement. “Our people drive the organization forward and inspire progress. Creating a culture of belonging is not just good for business, but good for attracting and retaining talent. As we look ahead to 2025, I am confident that our team’s collective passion will lead to even greater community impact.”
