KKR recognizes portfolio company for efficiency
Part of the global investment firm's efforts to support environmental initiatives at its portfolio companies, KKR on Nov. 2 announced the winner of its first internal "eco awards" program.
The "Eco-Innovation Award" is part of KKR's "Green Solutions Platform," focuses on environmental initiatives across three areas, which the firm identifies as eco-efficiency, eco-innovation and eco-solutions. Qingdao Haier Co. Ltd., the white goods home appliance subsidiary of Haier Group, was chosen for the first award for its development of energy-efficient air conditioners that reduce energy consumption using innovative technologies, KKR said in a news release.
Qingdao Haier's winning "intelligent air conditioning" project includes a series of energy-efficient inverter room air conditioners with six industry-leading technologies, utilizing smart technology sensors to detect body movement and temperature, and thereby adjusting the air conditioner output capacity accordingly. The company will receive a financial prize to enhance its broader environmental initiatives, as well as relevant and customized project enhancement support from KKR and KKR Capstone.
According to KKR's website, the award program is intended to:
- Help drive significant, measurable improvement in environmental impact (i.e., energy or water use);
- Highlight measurable cost savings and/or added revenue that result from implementation of a project;
- Encourage innovation, environmental awareness, and employee engagement at KKR portfolio companies.
Other of KKR's portfolio companies communicating results to the broader Green Solutions Platform include Capsugel, CITIC Envirotech Ltd., First Data, Gardner Denver Nash, Gardner Denver Thomas, GoDaddy, Goodpack, HCA, Mitchell International, Panasonic Healthcare, Pets at Home, PortAventura, Resource Environmental Solutions, Santanol, Sundrop Farms, Sungard Availability Services, Tarkett, Toys "R" Us and US Foods. Coriance, European Locomotive Leasing, South Staffordshire Plc, and X-ELIO of KKR's infrastructure portfolio; KKR's retail, multi-family, and hospitality real estate portfolios; and Ursa, a special situations portfolio company, are also communicating results.
