California pizza franchise eyes rooftop solar
Following the successful installation of a commercial photovoltaic solar installation at the company's Sacramento headquarters, a popular pizza restaurant franchise is now looking to expand the technology to each of its 64 locations across California, Nevada and Oregon.
A recently completed 68.8 kW rooftop PV system at its headquarters is expected to completely offset Pizza Guys' electricity use at the facility, which includes a training center for instructing franchisees in the company's recipes and cooking techniques, according to a news release. The solar installation, commissioned by SunSystem Technology, is divided into two interconnections with 11 kW feeding lighting requirements and the balance feeding the headquarters electrical needs.
"We think renewable energy is the wave of the future and we decided to start with our corporate headquarters in Sacramento," Shahriar Nejad, Director of Real Estate Development for Pizza Guys said in a statement, adding that the company is now exploring solar installations for each of its franchise locations.
