Denny's franchise completes onsite solar PPA

A Denny's restaurant franchise in West Sacramento, Calif., recently announced that it has entered into a power purchase agreement for electricity generated from an onsite solar project. 

The PPA associated with the output from the 105.6 kW solar carport system is expected to reduce the amount of electricity that Denny's W. Sacramento purchases from its utility, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. by more than 65%, according to an April 22 news release.  

Over the term of the PPA, which was not specified in the release, the solar carport system is expected provide the restaurant with energy savings estimated at $1 million. The project was planned and developed by Patrick A. Weller, president of Sol Power Energy LLC and designed, built and financed by Spectrum Energy Development Inc. 

Denny's W. Sacramento owner Bobby Chao relocated the Denny's in 2012 to its current location and built a LEED-certified restaurant before partnering up on the carport project in order to realize a goal of providing solar-generated electricity as a primary means of energy for small businesses. 

"This project is a win-win for the planet and our children," Chao said in a statement.
