Denver data center upgrades earn utility recognition
Privately owned data center provider H5 Data Centers was recently recognized by its utility for its leadership in energy efficiency at its Denver data center campus.
The company was named the recipient Xcel Energy's 2016 Data Center Efficiency Award for its work on a $15 million energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement upgrade at the campus. According to a May 16 news release, the overhaul resulted in the annual reduction of 3.2 million kWh.
"H5 Data Centers continues to make investments across our national footprint to improve the reliability and efficiency of our data centers," H5 Data Centers CEO Josh Simms said in a statement. "We are committed to energy efficiency innovation and long-term sustainability and want to thank Xcel Energy for its commitment to a sustainable and reliable electric grid."
Improvements to the campus included new uninterruptible power supply units, a flat-plate heat exchanger, variable speed cylindrical fans on computer room air-handling units, subfloor baffling cold air containment for high-density zones, a high-efficiency insulated roof, LEDs and proximity lighting, and a new building management system, H5 said.
H5's Denver data center campus includes two independent Tier III data centers and more 17 MWs of utility and generator power supporting private data center suites and wholesale colocation space, according to the company.
