Fujitsu accelerates RE use to achieve Vision
Fujitsu announced that it has set a goal of sourcing 100% of the electricity consumed at its group locations, both inside and outside of Japan, from renewable sources by 2050, with an intermediate goal of 40% by 2030. The company has also joined The Climate Group’s RE100 initiative.
In a statement, the company said it plans to undertake R&D and technology trials in areas such as energy management and storage, "contributing to the spread of renewable energy throughout society." These plans follow the "Fujitsu Climate and Energy Vision," a medium-to-long term environmental outlook announced in May 2017, which aims to bring Fujitsu's CO2 emissions down to zero by 2050. Beginning with datacenters outside of Japan, the company "will consider the appropriate steps for each region and expand its procurement of electricity from renewable sources."
Fujitsu’s "Vision" consists of three pillars: "Our Business: Achieve Zero CO2 emissions, "Mitigation: Contribute to a Decarbonized Society," and "Adaptation: Contribute to Measures in Society to Adapt to Climate Change." As part of the first phase of the plan, in effect until 2020, the company is working to deploy energy conservation technologies that already exist, verify new technologies, and move forward with the use of low-carbon energy.
