Disney World premieres 2nd solar project
Walt Disney World Resort's new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility is officially online. The project, which began construction in October 2018, is expected to generate enough power to operate two of our four theme parks in Central Florida annually.
The solar facility is expected to significantly reduce net greenhouse gas emissions, joining the numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to deliver its 2020 goal of reducing emissions by 50% from a 2012 baseline. The facility, built in collaboration with the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Origis Energy USA, features more than half a million solar panels, according to the Disney Parks blog.
This project follows Walt Disney World's 22-acre, 5-megawatt solar facility shaped like Mickey Mouse that opened in 2016.
