Mitsubishi eyes Sustainability Vision 2050
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 80% by 2030. This follows the company’s initial target of a 30% reduction by 2030.
The announcement came as part of Mitsubishi’s Environmental Sustainability Vision 2050, which clarifies the company’s stance on addressing long-term environmental issues and creating new value for a sustainable future toward 2050. The new vision builds on their “Environmental Vision 2021” plan, which included initiatives to realize a low-carbon, recycling-based society.
The company noted in a statement that “Respecting long-term goals based on international agreements, we will promote the reduction of greenhouse gases throughout the value chain, from procurement of raw materials and production through sales, distribution, use, and disposal.”
Vision 2050 also states, “Promoting and disseminating outstanding energy-saving products, systems, services and renewable energy businesses, together with our stakeholders, we will contribute to reducing greenhouse gases worldwide.”
The company’s Environmental Declaration states three environmental action guidelines:
- Apply diverse technologies in wide-ranging business areas to solve environmental issues
- Challenge to develop business innovations for future generations
- Publicize and share new values and lifestyles
