IBM powers up Boulder solar project
IBM Boulder is on its way to reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2025 and to helping its home city of Boulder reach its goal of generating 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity through renewable energy sources by next year, then 100 MW by 2030 and 175 MW by 2050.
Fueling these targets for renewable energy is IBM Boulder’s new 55-acre solar farm, the largest in the city and the county, according to a report by Boulder's Daily Camera. The project recently powered up and can generate 10 MW of direct current, equal to removing about 14.7 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the air, Boulder’s Daily Camera reported. The IBM system will contribute 20% to the city’s 2020 local renewable power generation target.
IBM Boulder is a partnership between IBM and NextEra Energy Resources and was selected for Xcel Energy’s Solar Rewards incentive program.
“We want to be good stewards of the environment,” said IBM’s Brody O. Wilson, manager of global energy and environment real estate strategy and operations.
