Oregon school district implements lighting overhaul
Silver Falls School District in Silverton, Ore., entered into a $1.8 million Energy Savings Performance Contract that is expected to save the district $87,000 annually through strategic energy improvements.
The school district partnered with Ameresco on the project, which will include improving the interior and exterior lighting at 13 district schools, the district office and its bus depot. The project, which includes a complete LED-overhaul, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
“Ameresco streamlined this process, giving us greatly improved lighting systems, which also significantly reduces our current and future maintenance costs,” Lorin Stanley, Maintenance and Facility Director for Silver Falls School District, said in a statement. “We’re glad that our decision to make these energy conservation improvements will have positive and near-term implications for not only our operating budget but also for the well-being of our school community.”
The project will have no impact on the school district’s general budget thanks to the coordination and management of reimbursement from utility public purpose charges and the Energy Trust of Oregon. Additionally, the expected savings from the energy upgrades are expected to help the project break even.
Silver Falls also implemented environmental improvements that included removing all remaining fluorescent tubes and remediating all polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) ballasts present within school facilities.
